The Midea PortaSplit portable Split Air Conditioner 12000 BTU is a split system: the compressor sits outside, with only the indoor unit staying in the room. That's the key difference from a portable monoblock unit: with no compressor in the room it stays quiet, and with no exhaust hose there's no need to leave a window ajar — which would otherwise let in exactly the warm air you just pushed out. The system delivers 12,000 BTU. That's designed for living spaces from around 35 m² upward. In winter, the unit works as a heat pump and heats: one kilowatt-hour of electricity becomes several kilowatt-hours of heat. That means the purchase pays off across the whole year, not just the four hottest weeks. Worth considering before buying: installing a split system with a permanently routed refrigerant line requires a certified specialist installer in Germany. Pre-charged quick-connect sets are exempt from this.
